Knowledge is like a river -- its nature is to flow.
The dharma of knowledge is to flow to all corners of the world and nourish the cultures there.
We should never stem its flow and thereby turn it into a stagnant pond.
It is said that knowledge is the greatest gift one can give, for knowledge is imperishable. Even if we light a thousand
lamps from one flame, the lustre of the first lamp never diminishes.
Similar is the greatness of knowledge. Knowledge does not diminish, no matter how much it is shared. In fact, the
more you give, the more it develops and expands.
By sharing knowledge and experiences, we can prevent the flower that is this world from ever wilting and ensure that it
remains eternally beautiful.
By bringing together diverse streams of knowledge, we can create a magnificent river.
May this great river of knowledge flow to caress the countries and communities of the world.
May it overflow the borders between people and countries.
May it impart the water of life to all of humanity, and thus nurture the blooming of culture throughout the world.

NANO/ BIOMEDICINE
  • My focus in nanomedicine is the study, design and fabrication of bioceramic structures as
implants and devices for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and genetic
disorders. Advanced health technologies will be key drivers of technological development in the
future as the full impact of the genome and proteome research becomes available and new
therapies and diagnosis procedures are required.

  • Nanomedical nanostructues will include: in-situ nanodevices for drug delivery; nanoparticles for
    selected cell destruction (e.g., hyperthermia in cancer treatment), imaging and diagnostic;
    DNA, protein and cell-chips; micro and nano –electrodes for neural and cortical implants;
neuroelectronics and new biomedical imaging technologies.

  • This theme has a strong societal impact, and will stem from interdisciplinary research between
my collaborators among materials engineers, biologists, physicists, physicians, chemists, and
others. A strong connection to Bioengineeringsections and as well as to companies operating
in the Biotech, Medical and Pharmaceutical fields will ensure that my research plans will impact
    both on education and industry.
NANOBIOELECTRONICS
  • My focus in NanoBioelectronics will be the development of technologies and devices in the
“Smart molecules and materials” area, focusing on the development of electronic devices
(semiconductor-, conductor, resistors, transistors, magnetic-, and photonic-based) that
incorporate with novel materials such as Graphene, nanowires and Carbon nanotubes with new
    bio-nano properties, and unconventional structures.

  • New molecular engineering and electromechanical systems are required to support the present
strategic areas. These novel devices will include merging various state of the art devices and
sensor technologies (micro- and nanofluids, optical and semiconductor based devices) in
multifunctional Microsystems and lab-on-chip platforms targeted in nanomedicine, environment
monitoring and security and food quality control.

  • In a first stage, the nano-bio electronic devices will support applications in biotechnology and
medicine, as well as in environmental and food monitoring. In a second stage, it is envisaged
that the nano-bio electronic modules developed can be commercialized as such for
incorporation in other products, thus establishing the basis for start-ups seeded by my
    sponsors.
RESEARCH PROJECTS
  • Nano-chemistry is an integral part of nano-technology, covering the synthesis and self-
assembly of these structures, which in some cases are single molecules.
  • The organisation of material at the nano-metre level has emerged as an important area of
scientific endeavour, because of the unique phenomena observed at such dimensions.
  • Nano-chemistry will be the basis for important new technologies in this decade and beyond.

Start-up Projects in collaboration with Prodex s.r.o:
  • Production, purification and functionalization of carbon nanotubes. ( Awarded materials of value ~ 30000 USD)
  • Research and Development project on production of nanocarbon based thin films for solar cells applications.
